Kate sat on a blanket, watching her son run around with his hand glued to a spool of string with Sean running right alongside him. She had her legs stretched out in front of her, her feet crossed at the ankles, with her eyes squinting from the sun's rays. Life had taken an unexpected turn, with her surprising reunion with Sean. She felt warm and fuzzy all over, like nothing could ruin this for her this time around. Glancing over, she gazed lovingly at her sleeping daughter and thought about how easily Sean was going to fall in love with her. At this moment, she couldn't be happier.
Sean ran with Andy, tugging on the kite string to help nudge the kite higher into the sky. He knelt down to help the little boy hold the string and keep the kite flying. His arms around the boy as he watched the kite. To any onlookers, Sean would have looked as excited about the kite's flight as the little boy he was helping. He couldn't remember a time when he'd been happier. This was exactly what he wanted to spend his down time with Kate and the kids.
It seemed that at last his life had turned a corner and everything was working out aas it should be. School was going well and Kate was 'his' again. He glanced over his shoulder to the pretty blonde on the picnic blanket. He winked and smiled, his attention diverted long enough to send the kite into a nose dive.
Kate's stomach did a flip when Sean glanced at her, reminding her that this was exactly what she wanted. Sean was spending time with Andy, which was something his father never had time to do. With his constant touring and performances, Jagger pretty much slipped off the radar. It was a shame because he was an awesome father when he had time to be.
Reaching over, she flipped the lid on the cooler and pulled out some drinks before calling them over, "Ok, break time! Andy, take a break and come have a drink!"
Sean turned to see the kite crash in all it's glory. That was good timing! He nodded but that didn't diminish the looks on both his face and Andy's face at the glorious crash. It took them both a minute or two to start rolling up the string and gathering up the kite so they could go take a break.
He patted Andy's shoulder, "Go ahead, get something to drink and I'll get the kite." He ruffled the little boy's hair and stood fully rolling the string onto the spool.
As Andy approached her, Kate held her arms out, "Come gimme a kiss!" Her little boy puckered up and gave her a big smack on the mouth, slobber and all. Laughing, she handed him the juice and asked him to sit down. "You havin' fun?" she asked. In return she got a dramatic nod of the head as an answer, his hair flopping as he did so. She reached up and ruffled it just as Sean did moments ago, "I think you need a haircut kid."
She then watched as her man finally headed toward them. "I was gonna ask who we bought the kite for...." she teased.
"It's not everyday I get to fly a full on CARS kite, you know?" he dropped to the blanket next to her, his arm moving around her as he kissed her lips softly. "And it's not every day that I get to spend time with the most beautiful girl in the world...and two great kids." Maybe it was cheesing it a bit, but Sean didn't care. He was in love with her and that didn't seem to be something that was going to change anytime soon.
Kate grinned like a fool. She couldn't help it.Sean's happy demeanor was so contagious. When he was around, she just couldn't feel anything but content. "Well maybe if you're a good boy, I'll get you the Transformers one you really had your eyes set on." she wiggled her brows playfully. "Do you want a juice box too?"
He laughed, "You know you shouldn't tease me like that." He nodded, "And yes, I do want a juice box!" he reached across her to get one, but only because by doing so he got to be a little bit closer to her.
Sean opened the straw and popped it into the box, glad that Andy seemed to have good taste in juice boxes. "Ohhh, this is my favorite!"
Kate shook her head, watching the interaction between Sean and Andy. It was amazing how easily it came to Sean. He knew exactly how to play and talk to Andy in a way that made him feel special. "Ya know...I'm beginning to get a lil jealous of my own kid..."
"Aww, you want me to share my juice box with you?" he gave her a pouty look as he offered her a sip of his juice box. "Maybe if you're a good girl, we can take a nap later..."
He couldn't hide his laughter when Andy gave him a look that clearly said a 'nap' was no reward.
Kate gave him a playful nudge with her shoulder, "You know what I mean..." she said, "You've been playing with my kid for the past hour. When you gonna start playing with me?" she teased again. She was clearly just giving him shit. She was thrilled that he got along so well with Andy.
Sean's smile softened as he looked at Kate, "Hmm, you know you're my favorite playmate." He softly brushed his lips against hers. Pulling back, he took a drink of his juice box pretty much draining it in one long drink. His brow furrowed slightly, "They don't make these as big as they used to...do they?"
Kate shook her head. Sometimes Sean was just like a big kid, which was probably why Andy loved him so much. Sure Jagger played with his son but Sean talked to him like he was on the same damn level. "I guess when you're a kid drinking those, your hands are smaller so they seem bigger." she teased, "You ready to go hit the beach?" she asked, ready to get a relief from the hot sun beating down on her clothed body. She was ready to get into her bathing suit and jump in the ocean. "Andy's been dying to take his new sandcastle kit..."
His eyes lit up as though the beach was exactly what he'd been waiting for. He jumped to his feet and started to quickly gather everything up but one hand reached out to help Kate to her feet. Sean helped secure everything and then he lifted the baby girl from the blanket, carefully he held her until Kate got the stroller ready for her to go in it. He glanced at his girlfriend, hoping that it was okay with her that he'd picked up the baby girl.
In all honesty he'd been waiting for his opportunity to hold the baby. He stared down at her, his eyes locking onto hers as he bounced her lightly. "Let's hit the beach," he picked up a bag and slung it over his shoulder after he carefully placed the baby girl into the stroller.
Kate couldn't help but smile as she watched Sean with Kayley. He seemed so damn giddy and happy around her kids that she couldn't imagine anything coming between them again. It seemed Sean was meant to be a dad, whether they were his natural kids or not. She stepped up to him before they got moving and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Let's go!" Her blue eyes lingered on his for a moment, letting him know that she absolutely couldn't wait to be alone with him later.
Pushing the stroller now, they made their way out of the grassy park and headed toward the sandy beach. It seemed most people had the same idea this afternoon because once they got closer, all she could see were the colorful umbrellas popped up everywhere, each with a towel spread out underneath. Beach balls were kicked and tossed around and laughter could be heard as children ran and played. It was going to a nice day today.
Realizing there was no way she was going to be able to push the stroller through the sand, Kate stopped. "Hmmm... why don't you go ahead and set up camp while I wait here with her. Then you can take the stroller back to the car."
"I have a better idea. Why don't we run this stuff to the car first? I'll carry Kayley and the bags or whatever we need to take down to the sand. I think we'll move a lot faster that way and we won't have to worry with carrying the stroller across the sand or waiting." He was already separating out the things that needed to stay and the things that could go back into the car.
"Does that sound alright to you?" he stopped and looked at her waiting to ensure she was okay with it before he continued.
It was a logical solution but Kate couldn't help but smirk at him, "You just want any excuse to hold that baby." she called him out, "Admit it."
He had to laugh at her accusation as if it was a bad thing that he kinda liked holding the baby. "I'll never tell," he carefully picked up the baby and put a couple of the bags over his shoulder. The stroller could roll to the car.
Sean reached down and took Andy's hand as they walked back towards where they had parked the car. Thankfully it wasn't that far and it didn't take them that long to get to the car.
Shaking her head, Kate folded the stroller up when they got to the car and set it inside the trunk of Sean's car, along with other things they didn't need so they could walk with a light load to the beach. It didn't take them long to settle on a spot not too far from the tide so that Andy could use the water for his sandcastle. Kate spread out the towels and immediately kicked off her shoes. She laid Kayley on her stomach for some much needed 'tummy time' and then helped Andy get his toys out of the bag. "Don't go in the water without mommy, ya hear!" she warned her son as she handed him a bucket and shovel. She then laid down across the towel, "Well, I suppose we have to take shifts in the water." she chuckled, "I wanna lay out for a bit anyways..."
Sean sighed playfully, "Alright...alright...Andy...it's you and me...let's hit the water!" He stood and grabbed a few of the toys that Andy had brought with him. "Let's get busy with that sandcastle building..."
It wasn't long before the two of them had started to digging the mote cause every guy knew the mote was the most important part of sandcastles.
Kate was just getting into a good article on her magazine when she was interrupted by an excited four year old who was standing over her with water dripping from his shorts onto her bare back. "Andrew!" she called out as she sat up, "You're getting me all wet." It was as if her words went in one ear and out the other because Andy didn't budge. He stood over her and grabbed at her arm, "Mommy, look! Look at my castle!" Kate looked at the masterpiece in front of her and smiled, "Wow... that's probably the best castle I've ever seen!" She glanced over him and noticed a very proud Sean. He was about as excited as Andy was.
Sean hurried after Andy and dropped to the blanket next to Kate. He was dripping and had sand caked to his feet. But it didn't matter because he was on cloud nine. "Did you want to get in the water now?"
"Actually I do!" Kate replied, getting to her feet as the boys settled in on the towels. "There's apple wedges in the cooler." she offered before taking off toward the ocean. The water felt amazing against her steaming hot skin that had been baking in the sun for the past couple of hours. The current wore her out in not time and she was getting out about as quickly as she got in.
"Damn... I think I'm a little outta shape." she said, wringing out her long blonde hair as she approached their site. Kayley was trying hard to roll over as Sean enticed her with a slice of apple. "You know she can't have that, right?" she asked as she sat down next to him.
From his vantage point on the blanket, Sean admired Kate's shape even as she bemoaned how out of shape she was. He'd broken out the fruit wedges for himself and Andy and was content to watch his girl play in the surf while he hung out with the kids. He had busied himself with entertaining Kayley.
He looked at Kate, "Well yes...I knew that!" He quirked a brow, "We were just playing." The baby girl was arching her back, her head pushing off the blanket, but the ground wasn't really hard enough to give her much leverage. She had managed to roll onto her back, but rolling back onto her tummy was a bit more challenging.
Kate helped Kayley turn back over onto her stomach before taking an apple wedge from Sean and popping it into her mouth. "So, my mom wants to take the kids for the weekend anddddd...." she wiggled her brows at her boyfriend, "I was kinda thinking... something romantic... fun... maybe even a little adult."
Sean lay on his back, one hand resting on his chest as Kate suggested they go somewhere for a weekend romantic getaway. He smiled, "That sounds nice...did you have a specific place in mind? Or should I just surprise you?" He didn't really have a lot of money, but he'd eat bologna sandwiches or something for weeks to be able to take her somewhere nice and just 'get away' for a couple of days.
She stretched out across the towel, her arm draping over her eyes to block the sun. "I dunno... surprises are always nice." she smiled, "We could hit up the Cleopatra if you want. They pretty much have everything under one roof...."
"The Cleopatra? I was thinking more like a cabin in northern California maybe a drive up Highway 1? Somewhere that it's just the two of us..." he was already grinning like a fool at the thought of being somewhere off the beaten path with her.
Kate smiled. Of course he wanted to be secluded and alone with her. They had a ton of catching up to do. So many years had been lost between them and they were both eager to make them up.
"Yea... that sounds perfect." she said, "Just uh... let me give Kristen the head's up and I'll see when I can clear my schedule."
Sean nodded and rolled onto his back enjoying the relaxing day on the beach. His eyes though rarely left Kate. "That sounds good. I'll bust my ass and make sure I'm caught up with my studies so we can do whatever you want for as long as you want." He openly flirted with her.
