B&R Couture... Adrian stopped his car as he finally saw the small sign outside the shop. 'And the day goes on,' he thought. It'd only been moments before he left his meeting with Caroline Corwin. Adrian was glad it'd went smoothly. But he couldn't exhale just yet. He had a crap load of other shit to do. Running errands and stuff - which included buying a birthday present for his executive producer, Miss Cindy. Without her, he'd literally be nothing and the show wouldn't have made it this far with so many changes. Adrian was grateful for her and received a tip from one of the other guys to get her something from one of her favorite new boutiques - In a size 6. He could do that. It was just clothes right?
Adrian parked his car in front of the doors and stepped out. He slipped shades over his face and although he was only walking like 5 feet, it was better to be safe than sorry. Adrian removed them the second he was inside the small shop and the door had shut behind him. A bell jingled overhead and Adrian couldn't help but smile at the quaintness of it. But as his eyes scanned the contents of the store... yeah. He realized really quickly that he was fucked. He had no idea what Cindy would like. Or what she already had. Or... aw, he needed help.
Beth sighed, hearing the jingle that let them know that someone was entering the shop and quickly draped the fabric she'd been working with back around the mannequin so it wouldn't touch the floor. Swiping back stray tendrils of blond hair from her face she wiped her hands on the legs of her jeans and hurried out to the front. She paused for a moment, a brow arching when she saw just who was standing in the shop. Adrian Young. Man! Kate would totally FLIP when she found out he'd been in the shop. She like.. Watched his show religiously! It was kinda nuts. Shaking her head, she skirted around the various displays and headed over to where he was. "Hi! Do you need any help?" She asked stopping just in front of him.
Jumping at the sound of an extra giddy voice at his shoulder, Adrian looked over and smiled. "Yes, please." Ooo... she was good-looking. It had to be a fashion designer thing. Adrian had yet to see an ugly one. He put the... interesting sequin top he was looking at back on the rack. "I'm looking for something for a friend. A female friend I work with." Adrian shoved his hands into his pockets and locked eyes with her as he smiled again, "All I know is that she wears a six. And that I have no idea what I'm doing. Still think you can help me?"
Beth opened her mouth to speak but quickly shut it. How the hell was she suppose to help him with that kinda information?! Whatever. She shook her head and flashed him an amused smile. "Well, not really. But how about you tell me what she normally wears and we'll work from there?" Friend from work her butt! Why didn't guys just say they were shopping for a chick they liked? Made things so much easier.
Adrian smiled, equally amused by her answer. "What she normally wears, huh?" Hell if he'd know - he didn't pay that close attention to the woman. And she was like, married and shit anyway, so he'd probably get hit in the eye if he did. "Okay... um, professional. Kinda laid back, but she'd never show up somewhere in flip-flops or anything like that." God, he had no idea what to tell her. Going from memory alone, Adrian tried to recall Cindy's taste in clothes. "Dark colors, but the occasional bright something just to switch it up on purpose. Does that help?"
Beth nodded, and turned and began rummaging through the racks, throwing various garments over her arm for Adrian to look over. Dark colored semi professional with a bit of.. Glam to it. Finally after gathering an arm full of clothes she motioned him over to one of the counters. "Well, obviously I grabbed a bunch of stuff..." She said heading over to the counter and dumped the clothes on the top. There's this one.." She said picking up a a black button up vest with gold stitching through it. "It's pretty, not too loud and works for the office, and well.. Going out."
e watched her with interest. Even though he had no idea how Beth did it, well she was woman - duh - Adrian followed her to a counter. He nodded and another smile edged it's way to his face when she held up the vest. "Looks exactly like something she'd wear. I'm going to have to think of a creative way to thank you for all your help," he replied with a wink and moved his hand from his front pocket to his wallet in the back pocket. "I'll take it. What else do you have in that stack?"
She arched a brow, not really sure she wanted to know what he meant by a creative way to thank her. Instead she turned and pulled a blouse out of the pile. It was a pale shimmery pink with mother of pearl buttons. "There's this, it's subtle yet holds a feminine charm to it." She said showing it to him, before putting it off to the side. She quickly picked up a charcoal colored jacket, "Umm.. Well obviously this is a jacket, but.. It would look good with dress pants, skirt or even jeans." She said holding it up for him to look at. "Did you want to see anything else?"
"I want the jacket, save the shirt please," said Adrian, deciding to take the flirting easy. Shit, he'd spent so much time away from the dating scene, and he'd been so caught up with Piper once upon a time, the idea of flirting now. He was bad at it. Plain and simple. But that didn't mean he was going to stop doing it. Adrian'd just have to be more... subtle. And to stop saying stupid shit like that creative way to thank her. Where the hell did that come from? "I don't think I could see her in that, no offense. You have a really impressive talent for this. I assume you're the owner?"
Beth nodded and picked the vest she'd first show Adrian and draped it carefully over the jacket. She actually thought that the shirt was pretty, but heck.. She wasn't the one he was shopping for now was she? "Oh that's quite alright. Different people like different things," She replied flashing him a smile as she headed over to the register and laid his things out on the counter. She looked over at him and nodded again, flashing a proud smile, "Well, I'm one of them." She paused and looked down at the clothes. "Did you want me to wrap this for you? It wouldn't be a problem."
So she gift-wrapped too? This was too good to be true. He was killing like five birds with one stone. Adrian beamed and nodded, "Yes! That'd be awesome, thank you so much. It's better than tossing it some half-assed gift bag. My other employee's will be going all out for her, I don't want to look stupid." Adrian hoped he didn't give her the impression that he was shopping for a girlfriend or something. Hell no. "I'm sorry, I didn't get your name. I hate to forget a pretty lady."
"I'm sure she'll love whatever you give her." She stated and flashed him another amused look as she carefully folded the vest and jacket and placed them in one of the gift boxes that Kate had insisted they JUST had to have. She leaned down, and opened the cabinet under the counter and pulled out a sheet of sea green wrapping paper, and rising back up, laid it out on the counter. Picking the box up, she placed it ontop of the paper and began wrapping it. She looked up from what she was doing, and shot him a look that was completely Beth (without even thinking twice about it). Dude was so not hitting on her! But... He was a customer.. And she had to be nice. So she managed to flash him a small smile, "My name's Beth.." She said as she finished taping the paper together.
He'd caught that look she gave him. It was a cross between a death glare and a 'dude, shut up'. Adrian was intrigued. Beth. Hmmm, alright Beth. 'Let's see what you got,' he thought to himself. "What was that for? I just wanted to know your name."
"What was what for?" Beth asked shooting him an innocent look as she tied a bow on the package. Yeah, play stupid Beth.. Dude's a customer.
Adrian shrugged a little, playing along and glancing around the shop as he answered Beth. "The look on your face. The 'shut up before I shank you with a fork' face."
Touche, she thought to herself as she looked across the sales counter at him. Though, two could freakin play at this game. "Oh that? That look's reserved for guys who'd flirt with anything in a skirt." She replied sweetly as she picked up the price tags she'd pulled off of the garments and scanned them. "So how are you paying today?"
"Credit. Or cash if it'd be more convient," said Adrian pulling his wallet out and unfolding it. He smirked up at Beth though. "Oh and for the record, I'm not one of those guys. You're not even wearing a skirt." He smiled as he kept his tone light and playful as always.
"Credit works just fine," She replied waiting for him to hand over his card. She had to restrain herself from rolling her eyes, but dammit! It was hard! "Ah.. So you're the type who'd flirt with everyone? Like what? Some sort of equal opportunity flirting?"
Handing her the credit card, Adrian chuckled at her comment. He had to. Damn, he had the right one. "Yeah. I'm a guy that paid you a simple compliment, so I must be after some ass. Right?" He shook his head. "Just 'cause I think you're pretty doesn't give you the right to call me names."
"I have yet to call you a name," She pointed out as she ran his credit card through the machine. "And just so you know, I didn't say anything about you being after 'some ass.' You did that all on your own." She tore the store's statement off from the machine and pushed it across the desk to him along with a pen. "Please sign.."
Okay, it was his turn to say touche. Adrian tilted his head and picked up the pen. He spoke as he scribbled his name on the paper. "Well what else am I suppose to infer from what you said? Other than you want me to leave and take my smart mouth with me."
"Well what exactly did you expect me to do? Bat my eyes and swoon at your feet because you called me pretty?" She asked ignoring his question as she put the gift box and receipt in a bag.
Adrian shrugged and reached out to take the bag. "Actually... I didn't. It's humbling to get my head bitten off for a change. Refreshing too." He paused to smile at her again, quite sweetly. "You have a nice day, Beth. Thanks for all your help." He turned on his heel, prepared to stop if she wanted to continue this.
She eyed him suspiciously when he smiled at her and turned to leave. "Well.. What did you expect then?" She asked, unable to leave it just at that. She knew she should have, but she'd never liked not having the last word in things.
He stopped. Adrian shrugged again and waved it off, "Oh nothing. You just have that no bullshit allowed quality about you. But It doesn't even matter." He smirked and looked back at Beth. "I'm just a customer. You don't care."
She frowned and flashed him an annoyed look. Annoyed because he was right about her and no bullshit and he didn't even know her! But more annoyed that he just wouldn't freakin tell her what he'd expected! She shook her head, her ponytail swaying with the motion of her head. "Whatever.." She muttered and moved over to the clothes she'd pulled off the rack for him and began slinging them back over her arm. "But you know.. " She stopped herself and shook her head, "Nevermind.. Have a nice day.." She said turning to face him and flashed him a sugary sweet smile before beginning to put the clothes back in their spots.
Adrian held back a chuckle at the 'whatever'. So... he was right. He'd hit the nail directly on the head and Beth didn't like that. Ah, she was a challenge indeed. Pity he'd probably never see her again. Beth seemed really interesting, worth the effort too. Adrian nodded to her as he reached the door. "I will," he replied and left the store. Interesting and worth the effort and pretty damn snotty. He could grow to like those qualities in a girl.
Adrian parked his car in front of the doors and stepped out. He slipped shades over his face and although he was only walking like 5 feet, it was better to be safe than sorry.
