Allison Whitney sure as hell wasn't about to deal with the California heat any longer than she had to. It had been a disastrous two long days for her with no working air conditioning in her car. She finally decided that it was more important than being at the restaurant, and so she called one of the managers and let them know that she would not be coming in today. Ah, the beauty of owning her own business.
Pulling her Kia into the parking lot of Prescott Motors, Ally turned the ignition off, grabbed her purse, and exited the car. Her heels clicked against the pavement while her long brunette locks swung back and forth. She wore a white knee length skirt with a black button down blouse. A chime went off as she entered the office, and immediately Ally pushed her sunglasses up to the top of her head. She stood at the counter and waited to be acknowledged, her keys dangling from her finger. "Hello...."

Adam had given his staff a well deserved day off assuming that it would be a quiet day at the shop. It was so he had spent most of it making little adjustments here and there to some of the machinery. It seemed they never really had time for maintenance which was ironic in that maintenance was the key to keeping everything running as it should and if done right was easier than costly repairs or replacement. It was nice not to have to worry about anything other than the job that was right in front of him. Working alone, with the bay doors open and a big mechanical fan facing inside to keep things from getting too hot he had found himself in a rhythm of sort, checking things off his to do list one item at a time.
He hadn't seen the little Kia pull into the parking lot nor had he heard it. The noise of the fan and his focus drowned out most anything else going on around him. Nothing could bring him out of his self induced trance like focus except for the sound of the door chimes. He heard them and immediately looked over his shoulder sort of surprised that someone had managed to pull into the parking lot and enter the office without him even knowing they were there. He wiped his hands on the cloth rag he was using and sat it down, making his way to the front desk.
Smiling as he spotted Allison and nodded, "Hi, what can I do for you today?"

Ally took in Adam's rugged appearance and smirked. He definitely didn't turn out the way she always thought. He belonged to the Prescott family, who was just as rich as her own family. Yet here he was, getting his hands dirty everyday. It actually looked good on him. She hadn't seen Adam in quite some time. Not since he was married to her sister, Belle. He definitely lost points for that one. Why would anyone want to marry Belle?
"Hey there, Mr. Prescott. Do you have time to help a damsel in distress? Seems as though my air conditioning stopped working on me." She swung her keys around on her finger, "Sorry to just drop by without an appointment, but I figured since we kinda go a long way back, AND you just so happen to be the best mechanic I know...." Ok, so maybe she was throwing a compliment in there in hopes it would get her what she wanted.

His smile came easy and naturally as she spilled all the compliments his way, "I've got nothing but time, Ms. Whitney." He stepped from behind the counter and walked over to the door, holding out his hand for the keys, "You want to stay in here in the air conditioning while I take a look?"
He wouldn't hold Belle's indiscretions against her sister. Allison had nothing to do with what kind of woman Belle turned out to be nor did she have anything to do with the reason he had rationalized the marriage. She was one of those innocent bystanders in the whole fiasco. While he waited on her to hand over the keys, he asked another question, "How long has the air conditioner not been working?"

Placing the keys into the palm of Adam's hand, Ally sighed with a little frustration. "Ugh, two days." she replied, "Two...very...long...days." She glanced out her window toward her car, "It blows nothing but hot air now."

Adam laughed lightly, "Sounds like a few people I know." Before he pushed open the door to head out to take a look at her car, he added, "At least it blows - it may just need some freon. If so, it won't take me too long to get you back on the road, feeling some relief from the heat. Make yourself at home. I'll check it and let you know the verdict."
He pushed open the door and stepped out into the heat. Though today it was cloudier then usual, the clouds dark and gray. Looked like a storm was on the horizon pushing Adam to bring the car into the garage before taking a look at it. He opened the door, adjusted the seat, pushing it back to allow room for his larger frame.
The car started right up. He closed the door and reached over to turn on the A/C holding his hand in front of it to see if it was going to get cool or not. Putting the car in drive he rolled forward, pulling it around to the garage door before he realized the big fan was parked right in the middle of the bay he wanted to use.
As soon as he stepped out of the car, the skies opened and rain began to pour. He looked up as if to ask 'Why?!' and quickly moved to get the fan out of the way, moving it to the other work space. He was drenched by the time he got back into her car and pulled it into the garage. He made a mental note to wipe her seats down to ensure they were dry and clean before handing back the keys.

Allison couldn't help it. She watched him from the window as he took over her car. She was very possessive over her things so she only wanted to make sure he didn't put a dent into it. Watching him get caught in the rain made her crack up. Shaking her head, she picked up a magazine from the table next to her and started flipping through it.
A half hour later, Adam returned to the office with her keys in hand... and a soaking wet shirt. Ally took one look at him and roared all over again. "If you wanted to give me a free carwash, Mr. Prescott, all ya had to do was ask."

Laughing with her, "Yes, well apparently my new super power is to conjure rain or something of the sorts." He tapped on the keyboard in front of the monitor on the counter. "Looks to me like all you need is some coolant. I can get that done for you in about an hour. Charges with tax will be right at $150."
He turned the monitor around so she could see the charges for labor and parts as well as taxes and disposal fees. "You say the word and I'll get it done. I'll go ahead and check for leaks but I don't expect to find any. But just in case, if it starts blowing hot air again just bring it back by. If I missed a leak I'll do the repair on the house."

Without another thought, Ally dug into her purse and pulled out a leather wallet. She slid out her Mastercard and handed it over to Adam. "Sure. Do whatever ya gotta do." she said, "They say money can't buy happiness, well... I think I'm about to prove that lil theory wrong." While Adam swiped her card, she watched him and tilted her head to the side a bit, "Did you and my sister ever officially divorce?" she asked bluntly, "I mean, if not, I should qualify for some sort of family discount, right?"

Just as he was about to swipe her card, she had to go and remind him about his ex wife. "Is that a rhetorical question?" He lowered his hand with her card and leveled his gaze seriously at her, "The hell your dear sister put me through wouldn't get you a family discount..." He clenched his jaw.
"Is that why you're really here, Ms. Whitney?" His day had been going so well and he thought he'd done a damn fine job of being down right pleasant. "Of all the mechanics up there in Beverly Hills you had to come down here and start back up about a marriage that's been officially ended for quite some time."

Allison brushed off his change in tone, "Oh, Adam, you know damn well I'm probably the only person in the world that hates Belle just as much as you do." she responded, waving her hand. "And you should also know that her and I are far from the same person." Ally had actually felt pretty bad about how Belle had treated poor Adam Prescott. She sunk her claws into him on more than one occasion and used him. But ya know what? Ally would never judge Adam for things that his brother Simon had done, and it only seemed fair that Adam did the same in regards to her.

Adam frowned and tapped the credit card on the countertop, "Yeah, you're right." He handed her the card back, "I'll go take care of your car." He knew better than to take it out on Belle's sister. She had absolutely nothing to do with what Belle had done. "Look, I'm sorry. It took a lot of hard work and time to get over what your sister did."
It irritated him that even now just the thought of being married to that ... woman could get under his skin like that.

It was now Allison's turn to frown. "Seriously, Adam? There shouldn't have been much to get over. We all knew what she was like growing up. She wasn't a nice person." She took the card back and slowly slid it back into her wallet. "I mean...she deserted her own kid, for crying out loud. That should tell you what kind of self-absorbed person she truly is. Colby isn't a model citizen, but at least he takes care of their daughter. And ya know....I see her whenever I can. I feel kinda bad that she's without a mom. So I guess I kinda just make it a point to see her as often as I can."

He nodded, holding the door to the garage open, "I know how she was." He felt bad for the kid but part of him felt relieved that the DNA evidence freed him of any sort of continuing connection to Belle. "Let me get your car taken care of...it's on the house. We'll call it the former family discount."
Before she could argue with him, he ducked into the garage and went to work on her car. Thankful to have something to focus on that didn't involve his ex-wife. It was good of Allison to do what she was doing for the girl that Belle had with Colby.
