Tyler smiled at her. It never got old to hear her say she loved him, "I love you too, Mrs. Buchanan. And I know full well how I managed to marry up...I chased down this beautiful girl and demanded she marry me and that she was going to like it." He motioned toward the door, "Do you want me to make you some tea or something to help you sleep?"

"No, I'll be fine. I think I just needed to get it out and we're out of chamomile anyway," she said. Still looking up at him, she stared into his gentle blue eyes and wondered to herself how in the hell she'd managed to actually find a man who respected her despite her tendency to spazz out at random moments. Pushed an air-conditioner out a window, that's how. "Do you think I'm crazy for thinking we should maybe think about telling Eli?"

Tyler held her gaze, "No, I don't think you're crazy. I think you're human." He kissed her nose, "I'll pick up some chamomile tomorrow." He took a deep breath, "I should probably go check on the kids..." But he made no moves to leave the warmth of her embrace.

Kristen nodded, though she wasn't exactly feeling inclined to let go of her husband any more than he had a desire to let go of her. "You might want to snag Van's IPAD while you're in there, I caught him up late the other night playing that stupid game that he refuses to put down," she said.

Tyler knew the power struggle between Kristen and their middle son, Van. It was a constant power of wills. He nodded kissing her forehead, "I'll take care of it." He stepped out of her embrace, feeling a coldness that reminded him how much he loved her and being near her. "I'll be back," he laughed lightly as he did his best Terminator impression which really wasn't all that great and probably unrecognizable except for the monotone he used to deliver it.
He stepped out of the room and walked through the house, checking first on his daughter who was sleeping like the perfect little princess she was. She was beautiful even when she slept and he couldn't help but to stand there watching her for a few precious moments.
He turned and walked further down the hall to the Jake and Eli's room. They were both tucked in their beds, sleeping. He smiled, they were good boys.
Next stop, Van's room that shared a bathroom with the Jake and Eli. True to form, Van was hidden under the covers, a soft light of an iPad flickering from under the covers. Of course, he didn't see his father doing rounds so he had no idea he'd been caught. Tyler thought for a long moment and made a decision. He left the room, walking to the office where he disconnected and powered off the wifi router.

While Tyler made his final rounds to check in on the kids--a ritual that, even after all these years, his wife found cute--Kristen finished getting ready for bed. She'd finished folding the towel and draped it over the rack in the bathroom for re-use in the morning before it went into the wash. Then, she'd brushed and rinsed her teeth and was tucked in bed with the covers pulled up to her chest by the time Tyler stepped back in the room.
"Anything to report?" she asked, arching an eyebrow in curiosity.

On his way back to the room he shared with his wife, Tyler stopped at Van's room. He stepped inside and walked to the bed. Van tried to pretend to be asleep, but that ploy was quickly squelched when Tyler picked up the iPad. "You'll get this back tomorrow for your homework only. Your game will be waiting on you in a week when I decide you've learned your lesson. You will have two hours each night to use it to complete your homework. No more and no less. If you can't complete your homework in two hours time, then I suggest you focus a little better next time." Before he finished listing out the conditions of Van's punishment, the boy was sitting upright in bed, "You can't do tha..." Tyler look at his son, "No? Interesting, you might say that. You can use the desktop computer in the office to do your homework this week. The iPad will go with me to the hospital and the office. You MAY get it back in a week or I may decide that you are simply ill equipped to handle it. The choice is yours. Now, I strongly suggest to you that you settle back down into that bed and get some sleep." He bent down and lightly kissed the top of their son's head, "Good night, Van."
Carrying the iPad back into the bedroom, he sat it with his briefcase. He slid into bed next to his wife, "I am now the proud owner of an iPad." He grinned and turned, scooting close to her as he settled into bed.

Kristen looked at her husband with utter shock written across her face as he climbed into bed with her. "And bombs didn't go off?" she said, glancing quickly at the door of the bedroom as if expecting for something to explode on the other side then turning her eyes back to Tyler. "You just took it and that was it? I'm impressed! And...I kind of hate you a little bit. Every time I've taken it away it was just short of a knock-down, drag-out brawl. You didn't cheat and sedate him, did you?"

"No, sweetheart, I didn't tranquilize our son," he shrugged. "He started to protest and the consequences became more severe. I think he's smart enough to know when he's on the losing end of it if he continues to argue. He may or may not get it back in a week depending on how much trouble you have out him. It's really up to him at this point when he gets it back."

"Oh really?" she arched a brow. "So you just walked in there, took it, and laid down the law and showed him who was in charge, huh?"

"Pretty much," Tyler nodded brushing his lips lightly against her shoulder. "I also turned off the wifi and disconnected the modem."

Kristen gave her husband a wicked smile. Sometimes she envied how easily Tyler seemed to handle the children, especially Van. Every time she and their youngest son clashed--which seemed to happen daily--it always turned into an epic battle of wills. Each time, she'd wonder to herself how, just how, a child of nine knew how to push just the right buttons with her but, in the end, she always came to the same conclusion: Van was just like her.
"Have I told you lately how sexy you are, Dr. Buchanan," she said, rolling onto her side to face her husband and propping her head up with one hand.

He opened one eye to look at her, "Hmm, have I told you lately how beautiful you are?" He turned his head to lightly kiss her. "You are beautiful, sweetheart."

"Oh yeah?" she said with an impish smile as she patted the space between them with her hand. "Well, Doctor, why don't you come on over to this side of the bed and show your wife just how beautiful you think she is?"

He was wide awake now. The open invitation from his wife was all he needed to ignite him. He closed the distance between them, his hand moving up under her tank top. Tyler's mouth found hers in a hard and hungry kiss. "You are..." His kisses interrupted by his words,"the most...beautiful...girl." His mouth moved along her collar bone as he worked his way downward eventually disappearing under the covers.
